The Hamilton soundtrack is playing in the background. Through the haze of hairspray, we could make out Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard stuffing hotel napkins into their necklines (Bell’s a deep blush Zuhair Murad V she was protecting from her makeup, and Shepard’s a crisp white collar). They role-played a family dinner at Red Lobster. If you couldn’t deduce it at this point, you should know we’re in a ritzy hotel room in Beverly Hills prepping for the 76th Golden Globe Awards with Bell’s glam team, including longtime stylist Nicole Chavez.
It wasn’t long before Shepard took control of the music—not before chirping his Golden Globe-nominated wife’s musical afinity—switching to rap and hip-hop while hairstylist Jenny Cho touched up the actress’s shiny S-waves and makeup artist Simone Siegel added a few final dustings of finishing powder. Bell, who was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her leading role in The Good Place, channeled old-Hollywood glamour in a full-length pleated gown and Brian Atwood heels Chavez had custom-dyed to match the dress perfectly. There was a heavy sprinkling of Harry Winston diamonds to finish off the look. Thank goodness Chavez gave us all the details of Bell’s look (and more) below.
(First of all want to say sorry for the lack of updates, sometimes life sucks but now I can say that we’re back!!)
Kristen Bell with husband Dax Shepard attended the 2019 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 6) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The actress was nominated for the first time tonight for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for The Good Place.
The Good Place was nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Kristen‘s co-stars Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, William Jackson Harper, and Manny Jacinto were all in attendance as well.
Kristen was wearing a pale pink Zuhair Murad dress, Brian Atwood shoes, and Harry Winston jewelry. Dax is wearing Dolce&Gabbana.
Kristen Bell stopped by Busy Philipps‘ new E! talk show Busy Tonighton Wednesday, where she teased new details about her highly-anticipated Veronica Mars revival.
Host Busy Philipps teased that her longtime friend ‘K-Bell‘ is ‘the hardest-working woman in show business,‘.
‘We have our first table read for Veronica Mars today,‘ an extremely excited Bell said, which was met with applause from the studio audience, before teasing a ‘sexy‘ show.
‘I’m so over the moon because we sort of made it a much more grown-up world and Veronica is an adult and it’s just gonna be sexy and cinematic and it’s gonna be exciting.‘
The actress added that, while she’s excited to deliver the show to fans, she might not watch it herself.
‘I probably won’t even watch it because we don’t stay up late,‘ Bell said. ‘I’m probably asleep by like 9:30.‘
Veronica Mars originally aired for three seasons, between 2004 and 2007, first on UPN and then on the network’s successor, The CW.
With the two clearly being very comfortable with each other, conversation immediately got onto feminine hygiene, and before Kristen Bell had even sat down she was already recounting her experience with menstrual cups, referencing a segment about them earlier on the show.
‘I’ve tried the DivaCup but I had a very weird experience with it,’ Kristen explained, saying it takes a while ‘to figure it out, or really to finger it out.’
‘A menstrual cup is tricky and takes some trial and error,’ Busy agreed, but even she had no idea how dramatic Kristen’s menstrual cup experience would be.
‘I will say to the DivaCup company that I think this was an enigma but I once got it stuck,’ Kristen explained, voicing her sadness as she had previously liked it – ‘I’m saving money, I’m saving the environment – this is great’.
‘So I was going to remove it because it was time for a change and I went to grab it but there was something that was suctioned to the wrong part of me,’ the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress explained to gasps from the crowd. ‘And you know that feeling they say when you have a vasovagal nerve that can immediately make you pass out? Well, I pulled and I passed out.’
She continued: ‘I came to and I still hadn’t got it out so I then had to be like “OK you’ve got to brace yourself, you’ve got to grab hard, you’ve got to grab strong” and I ripped it out.’
‘After that I was like maybe it’s not for me,’ explained Kristen, concluding her story. ‘But prior to that I had had a great experience.’
When it comes to stranger danger and conversations around consent, Frozen’s Anna has a lot of questions for Snow White.
Kristen Bell reads every night to daughters Lincoln, 5, and Delta, 3. “It’s truly my favorite part of the day,” Bell says. “I glance away from the book and see their brains working while we’re all cuddled up like meerkats.”
But the ladies don’t just read, they discuss—especially classic Disney storylines.
“Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right.’”
The apple question is not the only one that Bell—a Disney Princess herself as the voice of Anna in Frozen—has after reading the tale. “Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?” Bell says she has asked her daughters. “Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”
Bell herself is working on a children’s book, and the process has made her appreciate how far children’s literature has come. “There’s a book called Grumpy Monkey that we love that allows the monkey to be grumpy, even at the end. Other characters give him solutions but he decides he’s still grumpy,” Bell explains. “I’ve had that feeling, and I want my girls to know that you’re allowed to feel it. Figure out ways to pick yourself up when you are ready. I really like that message.”
Reading gets Bell jazzed, both sharing books the traditional way and projecting books on a wall using the Moonlite device and a smartphone. “My oldest is learning to read in Kindergarten, so she’s pointing out letters. It makes me excited,” Bell says. “I look at my child’s brain like a hungry stomach. I have to feed it every day. Even if I’m rushed, I have to feed their brain just like I feed their belly.”
Bell has old books from her childhood, courtesy of her mom, and says those are often outdated. (“There’s a fear-based toddler-teaching book with Mr. Fox getting hit by a car, his head bleeding and Xs on his eyes. I’m like, ‘Mom, you read this to me?’ God bless the 80s, I don’t know how we got through.“) More current favorites include Uni the Unicorn and We’re All Wonders.
When she and the girls are done with books, they donate them to Baby2Baby. “There’s a bin outside my child’s preschool and nearly every time I drop her off, I put something in there: shoes, jeans she just outgrew, books. Baby2Baby takes them to a giant warehouse, cleans and separates everything, and invites parents and caregivers to ‘shop’ for free. It’s kind of a perfect system.”
Bell will return as Veronica Mars on Hulu this Summer.
